Representing the Surface of Objects by Combinatorial Pyramids ∗

چکیده
This paper introduces a new method to represent the surface of objects using two dimensional combinatorial maps. The classical definition of two dimensional combinatorial maps is extended here by adding a “back face” that corresponds to the non–visible part of the object. As a first step, every object in the scene is extracted in one image pyramid, where levels are related by means of coordinates. Finally, an algorithm to complete the description of the surface is presented. Such representation is translation, rotation and scale invariant. It will allow to update information about movements and parts of the object that become visible, reducing the complexity and the computational time.

A First Step toward Combinatorial Pyramids in n-D Spaces
Combinatorial maps define a general framework which allows to encode any subdivision of an nD orientable quasi-manifold with or without boundaries. Combinatorial pyramids are defined as stacks of successively reduced combinatorial maps. Such pyramids provide a rich framework which allows to encode fine properties of the objects (either shapes or partitions). Combinatorial pyramids have first be...

متن کاملPyramids of n-Dimensional Generalized Maps
Graph pyramids are often used for representing irregular pyramids. Combinatorial pyramids have been recently defined for this purpose. We define here pyramids of n-dimensional generalized maps. This is the main contribution of this work: a generic definition in any dimension which extend and generalize the previous works. Moreover, such pyramids explicitly represent more topological information...
